 Just Sporting Around

As Adi's after school schedule now includes 2 days of tennis, Albanian class, karate and soccer, thought we would share some shots of him in action.

Oh yea, she wants to play too;-)

Oh and some weekend bike rides.

A Hardship Work Trip to Moldova (not)

As you can see below I have landed a very nice project in Moldova that I hope to be supporting for the next several years. For my second trip I just spend 2 weeks there and anticipate a couple more shorter ones this year. Not only is it in the same region and timezone (able to skype daily with wife and kids) but it is a beautiful simple country with nice restaurants, wineries, sites and activities. I am supporting a USAID high value agriculture project to build their partnerships with the private sector with an excellent local staff (the project Director is an old friend of mine) and easy office location near the city center. Who said it can't be all work and play?

Sampling Summer in Albania

Man after 9 long months it appears that summer is finally arriving. Although we left Kosovo in a cold 4 day rain once we cleared the mountain range the sun came up and our brief holiday weekend began. Now the key to living in the Balkans is to try and plan holidays before or after the holiday season. (Unless of course you like wall to wall sunbeds, people, dirty water, loud music, allot of smoking and general holiday chaos). Fortunately we were invited along with 2 other international families from Adi's school to discover an isolated beach/resort that was only a 4 hour drive. Although the pre-season beach trip does include freezing waters, the sand and sea were still clean and only a couple other families stayed the night in neighboring bungalows with smaller groups arriving during the day. The evenings were slightly chilled enough for us to appreciate a nice bonfire we made and the rooms big enough for us to prepare our own breakfast and lunches.

Having taken all our recent family vacations as a family, we forgot the great fun and convenience of many other kids around. As they entertained themselves the adults could do the same as well. Complete conversations, adult beverages, staying up late...
