Weekend Away in Virginia Beach

Nothing like old friends. Pranvera and I finally got out of town fighting the horrific DC traffic to make our way down south and spend a fast weekend with dear friends from the Northwestern college days, Ron and Sonya and their amazing kids Conor, Madeline and Julia (8,6,4). What better way to get us psyched about raising a family of our own and moving to the suburbs:-)

The 5 hour drive on both sides collapsed the socializing into a late night catch-up over a beer on Friday before we collapsed into bed. Not only was the drive stop and go for a bit, but we happened to hit a side affect of Bill and the rain was unrelenting for about 20 minutes, forcing us off the road into the perfect rural diner which happened to be right on one of the waterways. Was perfect.

Sat found us making donut run, doing morning yoga with the kids and finally heading out to the beach to enjoy the 10 foot post hurricane winds. Unfortunately it was too strong for Pranvera to enjoy her swim and after a couple of flips, she ventured back to the beach where the kids played and Ron and I headed out to master the curl. Since he was surfer I let him take the lead on playing with mother nature. I held onto my boogie board for dear life and finally caught a big one which by the grace of God did not churn me out but let me ride gracefully all the up to the shore. Making the day a success.

We all celebrated by heading to a local seafood place right on the waterways to have tons of fresh seafood and continue to enjoy the great company. As we rolled back the house another storm ripped apart the area and knocked the power out for a couple hours so we all just sat in the front foyer and watched the water rush down the street clearing everything in its way.

Sat night was the perfect night in with pizza delivery, games with kids and then a late night of drinking, laughing and numerous rounds of board games. Sunday was a late morning but got us out and about in the hood enjoying the kids race around us on their bikes. Fresh air, post storm colors and perfect sun. Our eventual farewell put us back on the road with Greenie to spend a quiet evening back in DC before another busy work week.
