Grandpa Visits
Since I have been staying at home with Adrian each day, I was able to spend a lot of quality time with my father who visited last week. Adrian took to him right away and they enjoyed many an hour of playing, soothing, burping and feeding. Always very nice to have an extra set of hands around when mine are full.

We most certainly got out and about the city with a walk virtually every day whether a short hike in Rock Creek Park or just across town to meet up with friends, walking the monuments downtown, grabbing a Starbucks or have a play date on the neighborhood swing with Alex (Kat and Tim's 9 month old). We visited with old friends from St Louis and Adrian had another play date with their 14 month old Sarah. So great to see Adrian interacting with other babies with a modest level of interest.

We actually had a guys night (sans Adrian) where we caught a movie and a nice late night Indian meal. Unfortunately Pranvera was working long hours so we only had his final night as a family where dad took us out to an all you can eat Brazilian BBQ place that actually brings the meat to you at your table. An amazing culinary experience (not for the feint of heart or strict vegetarians).

Froggie and Bagels' First Playdate!!

Adrian's first real playdate was with our dear friends Carol and Jim's baby girl, Samantha. They came in from NY for the weekend so our kids could finally meet each other. Only 7 weeks apart they were almost in the same learning stages with the exception that Sam has already ventured into solid food which provided hours of entertainment. So wonderful to see them interact and enjoy each others company (except when Sam's crying scared Adrian into crying as well).

Upon their arrival we spent the night in allowing the kids to enjoy one another and for us 'adults' to catch up after over a year of not seeing each other. Had a home cooked meal and plenty of wine to pass the night away until we all crashed at the late hour of 11pm (welcome to life of young parents).

We spent an afternoon along side the Potomac River at a BBQ with Carol's friends. Could not have had a more perfect day for a father and son to enjoy their first sleep together in a hammock. Unfortunately Mommy was not feeling well so she was not able to join for the festivities.

Final brunch was a great way for the kids to say goodbye and for us all to enjoy the nice weekend weather outdoors in the neighborhood. Sad that we do not live in the same city to have our kids growing up with one another and for us as parents to share in all the joys and frustrations with other close friends and parents going through the exact same wonderful adventure.

Second Anniversary, First Mothers Day

What better excuse to head out of the city for 24 hours to take in the beautiful greening forests and sunny (windy) hills of northern Virgina. Only an hour away we rented a cabin in the Front Royal range and had an expansive, unobstructed deck (and bedroom) view to enjoy time away with just the family. Of course Adrian is always the center of attention but he was a great sport playing along with us to visit the historic civil war town, dine at a nice Mediterranean cafe, spend the afternoon wine tasting at a local vineyard, and then heading back into town for a very nice (restless) romantic local home cooked gourmet celebration dinner.

Our Mothers Day started with a nice card and gifts, a simple eggs/pancake diner meal at the local Apple House and then a wonderful 4 hour hike in one of the forests near the Appalachian trail. Aside from a cold front coming in and requiring us to break out the hats and jackets again, plenty of sunshine, fresh nature smells and air reinvigorated us to return to our lives back in the city.
